Position Description: The UND Petroleum Engineering Program invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor position. Because of the growing needs for Petroleum Engineers regionally, nationally and internationally a Petroleum Engineering program was recently initiated within the School of Engineering and Mines. This program builds on the expertise, facilities, and research programs developed in the School of Engineering and Mines. UND has a long history of educating students for careers in the petroleum industry and performing research on conventional and unconventional energy reserves and extraction technologies. The vision of the Petroleum Engineering program is to educate undergraduates so that, upon graduation they are prepared to compete for entry level positions in the petroleum and other related industries or government agencies and for advanced petroleum-related studies in graduate school. We are seeking a candidate who has the ability to educate future generations of Petroleum Engineers and to perform research and service that contributes to reliable and affordable energy production and environmental protection. The person hired for this position will play a crucial role in meeting the objectives of the new Petroleum Engineering Program. Candidates with a background and interest in reservoir engineering, enhanced oil recovery, and carbon sequestration are encouraged to apply. Applicants for this position should possess a Ph.D. degree in petroleum engineering or a closely related field. Duties will be a blend of teaching and research as assigned by the Director of the Petroleum Engineering Program. A passion for teaching undergraduate petroleum engineering courses and for performing research is necessary. Research areas are open but resources are currently available for those working in reservoir engineering, petrophysical and geomechanical research on the Bakken Formation and the recovery of geothermal energy from petroleum-produced water. Grand Forks has been rated as one of the top communities in the nation to live and work. Features include excellent schools, affordable housing, and safe neighborhoods. UND s Petroleum Engineering Program is committed to faculty development and maintaining a true balance between teaching and scholarship, and between career and family. It is a great place to pursue your career. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled with screening to begin March 15, 2012. The appointment will begin August 16, 2012. Applicants should send an application letter, a resume, a statement of teaching and research interests, and the names and addresses of three references to: Faculty Search Committee, Petroleum Engineering Program, Upson II Room 366, 243 Centennial Drive Stop 8154, Grand Forks, ND 58202-8154. Reference letters and credential materials (such as degree certificates and transcripts) will be required for the finalists. Salary is commensurate with experience. UND is an Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
