Position Summary:

Provides nursing leadership and program coordination of the various components needed to initiate, obtain, and sustain the American Nurse Credentialing Center s Magnet designation within the Trinity Health Care System. The Director will function as a change agent assuring collaboration with internal and external stakeholders of the organization. Functioning in the various roles of consultant, practitioner, educator, the Director will promote the philosophy and concepts of Magnet status throughout the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Organize, direct and evaluate all aspects of technical and regulatory activities and the project management required to obtain and maintain magnet status including participation in the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators.

2. Serves as site Director and coordinates all TH activities related to Magnet Status.

3. In collaboration with clinical and administrative leadership, assumes hospital-wide responsibility for coordination of the American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet application, designation and re-designation process

(a.) Responsible for the completion of the written Magnet application(s) initial and re-designation; and any other required reports or information related to the initial and any subsequent applications. Responsible for quarterly submission of required data to the National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators.

(b.) Maintains current knowledge of Magnet Standards. Regularly monitors the Magnet website and proactively scans the environment, literature, etc., to identify opportunities for improvement to meet and/or maintain Magnet designation requirements.

(c.) Recognizes when changes in Magnet Standards or changes in professional nursing practice affect compliance with standards. Reports changes to Nursing Executive Council and recommends changes to maintain or exceeds compliance with Magnet Standards.

4. Serves as the Magnet advisor to the leadership team and the liaison to the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

5. Provides regular communication to Nursing Executives and Leadership on Magnet and Magnet-related projects with regular reports, presentation, etc. helping develop and implement maintain tactical plans related Magnet status.

6. Acts as liaison with Shared Governance Councils to ensure understanding of Magnet standards and the effect the work of the Councils has on achieving the standards.

7. Develops written reports related to assessments and recommends change in the clinical practice environment which may be required.

8. Coordinates Department of Nursing initiatives which directly relate to achieving or maintaining Magnet status and participates in hospital-wide and nursing department-based initiatives that have a potential for significant impact on Magnet status.

9. Provides consultation to direct care nurses assigned to the Magnet.

10. Effectively communicates Magnet standards both internally and externally and participates in the information sued for publicity and recruitment.

11. Communicates routinely with the Chief Nursing Officers concerning the GAP analysis and recommends needed plan of action pertinent to the efficient operation of nursing departments.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT

o Valid current ND RN license

MINIMUM EDUCATION

o Masters Degree in Nursing required (Candidates matriculating to Master s degree may be considered but must have a Bachelors Degree in Nursing).

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

o Five years' relevant clinical experience.

o Demonstrated teaching skills.

o Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span.

o Management experience preferred.

o Proficient computer skills.

o Knowledge of nursing research related to Magnet Status.

o Knowledge of ANCC Standards related to Magnet Status
