JOB SUMMARY:
Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.
About the Position:
Employee will serve as the Office Automation Assistant at the North Dakota Regulatory Office. The incumbent will perform a variety of clerical functions in support of the organization's mission and functions.
About the Surrounding Area:
This position is located in Bismarck, North Dakota. Bismarck, ND has a population of approximately 55,000 and is located adjacent to the Missouri River. Health care facilities are located throughout town. Higher education includes Mary College, United Tribes Technical College, and Bismarck State College. The area is known for its outstanding walleye fishery but also offers many additional outdoor recreation opportunities such as camping, hunting, hiking, biking, boating which can be enjoyed within a 30 mile radius. There are a number of restaurants featuring a variety of foods. Public transportation is also available. Winter temperatures can be very cold with generally mild summers.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
* Up to 5% Temporary Duty (TDY) is required away from duty location.
* Must be a qualified typist (40 wpm).
* Permanent Change of Station (PCS) is not authorized.
DUTIES:
Duties: The primary purpose of this position is to perform office automation work, including word processing, and a variety of clerical functions in support of the organization s mission and functions. Type, edit, format and print a wide variety of documents from either written drafts or voice recordings. Make corrections in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and format. Maintain documents in electronic files. Operate a computer, peripheral equipment and appropriate software to perform various computer operations in support of office operations, such as producing reports, maintaining databases, and inputting time cards and travel order information. Maintain and update computer manuals, reference books and operating handbooks. Perform a variety of receptionist and other clerical and administrative functions. Review incoming correspondence. Route and distribute mail. Establish suspense files.

General Schedule
Specialized experience: To qualify, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-04). Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Experience using a full range of functions of various office automation and communication systems for office needs such as calendars, electronic mail, spreadsheets, or graphs; 2) Experience providing clerical support in a variety of receptionist and administrative functions.
Time in Grade Restriction: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction.
Time in Grade Restriction: Must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).
Education may be substituted for experience as follows:
Successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at the GS-5 level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
