This position is located in Fargo ND that is within the VISN 23 VA Midwest Health Care Network which oversees the operation of ten medical centers, thirty-five community based outpatient clinics, four domiciliaries, and seven VA nursing homes.

DUTIES:
Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team giving nursing care to varying age groups of psychiatric patients including geriatric, medically infirmed and regressive patients. Works with individuals and small groups of patients under the direct supervision of a nurse, or as a co-therapist. Identifies specific illnesses, problems, treatment needs and progress the patient is making. Incumbent is accountable for giving care to patients who are hyperactive, assaultive, homicidal and suicidal. Utilized safety measures to prevent the patient from harming self or others. Applies positive interventions to calm the disturbed patient. Assists with admission and orientation of patients to the unit. Takes vital signs and records according to procedures, collects specimens, and performs procedures and treatments according to nursing service policies after being instructed by the nurse.
Pay is pro-rated for part-time hours.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-4) OR successful completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation OR equivalent combinations of successfully completed related post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. A transcript or course listing must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
Specialized Experience: Qualifying specialized experience includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
