DESCRIPTION

The American Diabetes Association is proud to announce the availability of an exciting internship with the North Dakota Area office. The unpaid internship can provide school credit and offers valuable experience in the non-profit and event planning industries. The office is located in Fargo, ND.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a career in marketing, events and/or the communications field. Candidate must be energetic, a team player, results-oriented and dedicated to the achievement of personal and team goals. This internship requires a candidate with confidence in interpersonal communication, excellent writing skills, and a passion for making a difference in the lives of people with and affected by diabetes. The Special Events Intern s role will be to support the associate director in all aspects of special event planning and marketing. There are two special events organized by the Fargo office: Tour de Cure and Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. The Tour de Cure is held in Fargo and Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is held in Fargo and Grand Forks.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Special Events Intern s specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

* Help in planning and implementing the three special events.

* Assist with phone calls and mailings to past participants.

* Assist with cold-calling and donation asks.

* Assist with day-of-event volunteer recruitment and management.

* Attend committee meetings.

* Help with the promotion of the three special events.

* Other duties as assigned.

Duration: Available Now - Timing / Dates are flexible for the 2012 School Year
Hours: Schedule is flexible, but must be able to commit to at least 15 hours per week.

REQUIREMENTS

* Excellent writing, research and interpersonal communication skills
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, internet and e-mail
* Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously
* Attention to detail and accountability
* Interest or personal connection to diabetes is desirable, but not mandatory
* Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
* Must have an automobile and ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
* Must pass background check.
